Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild between 1874 and 1885 to showcase his art collection and entertain the fashion world. Opened to the public in 1959, the Waddesdon Estate is managed by the Rothschild Foundation, a family charity, on behalf of the National Trust, which became the owner in 1957. It houses collections of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts of the Rothschilds.
The Grade I listed house was built mainly in the Neo-Renaissance style, copying individual features of several French castles, between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild as a weekend residence for entertainment and to house his collection of art and antiquities.
What you learn:
Themed installations of contemporary art are arranged in the park and the house, which wonderfully enlivens the prim atmosphere. Together with you, we will look at seven magnificent works by Leon Bakst on the theme of "Sleeping Beauty", commissioned by the Rothschild family.
