The Victoria and Albert Museum in London (V&A) is the world's first and largest museum of decorative arts, design and sculpture. Covering a total area of 51,000 square metres, the V&A has 145 galleries on 6 levels and a permanent collection of 2.27 million objects. It is the 14th most visited art museum in the world.
The exhibition includes works of art from Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa over 5 millennia. It includes jewellery, ceramics, textiles and glass, as well as paintings, sculptures, engravings and stained glass. It also houses the UK's largest collection of early British photography.
What you learn: The British halls are of particular interest to tourists. See the bust of Henry VIII by Torrigiano, Elizabethan palace furniture and tapestries embroidered by Queen Mary Stuart herself. The most memorable works of art on display in Europe are a lace wooden tie by the Dutch woodcarver Grinling Gibbons and a precious Norwegian bridal crown.
