The museum is located in two large mansions built at the beginning of the XX century. One of them belonged to the famous Russian ballet dancer, M. Kshesinskaya, who bought the land here and built a mansion in the best of Art Nouveau style, fashionable at the time. The second was built for a major timber industrialist, V. E. Brant.
